Asthma Pharmacology

Pharmacology means the study of drugs, their nature, their properties and their sources. It can be also referred as the study of body’s reaction to drugs. Pharmacology is crucial for improving the effectiveness of medicine, reducing the medicines unwanted side effects, discovery of new medicines helps to fight the diseases, and understanding why the individuals differ in the way they respond to certain drugs and why some others cause addiction.

Pharmacology may also reffered as the science of drugs and their affect on the living systems. At present the most effective drug is β2‐Adrenoceptor agonists and glucocorticoids used for the treatment of inflammation, airway obstruction, along with theophylline, leukotriene antagonists and anticholinergics as the second and third line of therapy. Based on the improved efficacy and the potential for a steroid-sparing effect new approaches in asthma therapy recommends drug combination of inhaled steroids, along with primarily acting β2-adrenoceptor agonists.
